About barefoot prince

Before barefoot prince was formed, we were all members of a youth group band called The WAVE Band. The WAVE Band played every week for the youth group that we were in. Because it was made up of mostly students a lot of people came and went and so The WAVE Band wasp pretty much different every week. By the beginning of the 2000 school year Zach was playing drums, Daniel was playing bass, Jessie was on keyboard, and Heather and myself were singing pretty much every week.

In November one of the local high schools put on a coffee house that some of the band members were involved in and someone decided that it would be fun to play a couple cover songs. We had so much fun and had a really good response from the crowd, so that got us thinking about playing other places. So, we started practicing apart from The WAVE Band, learned a bunch of Christian cover tunes, and that was pretty much the beginning.

The first place that we ever played apart from the coffee house was leading worship at a high school camp for a week. To add to the new cover songs that we had learned we learned some new worship songs in preparing for the camp. The camp was a really great experience for the band and it helped us understand that leading worship was something that we really liked doing and that it seemed God had given us the means to do it well. Since then we have played at camps, done worship concerts, and since January 2002, the church that we go to has given us the opportunity to lead worship every Saturday night at a place called Common Ground.

What's great about barefoot prince is that we are all close friends and have been friends before we even started playing music, let alone playing music together. In The WAVE Band we learned how to play our instruments while playing along with each other, so musically we've really grown up together and have helped each other in that process. The passion that we have towards the music is as much about playing with each other as it is about the actual music.

Essentially, barefoot prince is a worship band. All the music that we play was written to help people experience God. Anywhere we play, the purpose of the music is ultimately to give God credit for who He is and what He's done in our lives. In light of how the band got started, it would seem that barefoot prince is (in the words of the late Bob Ross) a happy accident, but it is clear to us that God has brought us together and that he has a plan for us. What that plan is, we don't know, but for now we are having a great time just playing together and worshiping Him.
