 Mission Trip
2002
We played for the youth group at
Christ Community during the mission trip that we went on with the high school
and college groups from our church this summer. The worship band from Christ
Community opened up the night and then the current WAVE Band was next (if you've
read the little section about bfp you already know a little bit about The WAVE
Band). The WAVE Band did awesome. It had been a while since most of us had heard
these guys play and they've really improved a lot thanks to Mitch, the lead
singer, and Chad, one of the guitar players (not to mention a little help from
our own Daniel Zehring.) After those guys played, Chad gave a testimony and then
the youth choir sang a couple songs. The youth choir is fun, fun, fun, let me
tell you. By the time it was our turn to play, there was a really cool vibe in
the room. It was really cool to meet people from a different place and all we
had in common was our relationship with Jesus. The spirit of God was definitely
in that place, and there was so much freedom to celebrate God. Fillmore was
definitely one of the most fun times we’ve had playing together. Those kids over
there are cool cats. Hopefully soon we can get some video of the night available
to download.
- July 7th-12th - Santa Barbara Rescue Mission
This was also during the week of the mission trip. The Rescue Mission is a
really cool place that we got to work with a lot this week. At night we had the
opportunity to lead chapel services for homeless people that came to get cleaned
up, eat, and sleep. It was crazy to meet some of the people and hear their
stories. Most nights someone from the band lead worship. Mat did a night, Jessie
and Heather did a night, the whole band did a night, and Daniel
did one night. It was a really great learning experience for the band and also
for the whole group that went.
- July 12th - First Baptist Church of Santa Barbara
On Friday of the mission trip, our group joined with the church we were
staying at to host a "Big Skate Extravaganza." Basically, they just set up a
bunch of skate ramps and boxes, had a couple contests, gave away a bunch of
stuff and had the bands play. The WAVE Band did awesome again and we got to jam
